Kris Meeke è stato cacciato dalla Citroën a causa dei troppi incidenti avuti nel WRC: il violentissimo crash nella PS12 del Rally del Portogallo (che ha portato addirittura al cedimento del roll-bar della C3) è stato la goccia che ha fatto traboccare il vaso.

Kris Meeke – nato il 2 luglio 1979 a Dungannon (Regno Unito) e vincitore del campionato IRC nel 2009 – correva con la Citroën dal 2013. Con le vetture della Casa francese – prima la DS3 e poi la C3 – ha portato a casa cinque vittorie in sei stagioni, un quinto posto nel Mondiale 2015 come miglior piazzamento in carriera e tanti ritiri (8 nelle ultime 20 gare disputate).

La Citroën affronterà il Rally d’Italia Sardegna (in programma dal 7 al 10 giugno 2018) con due C3 affidate all’irlandese Craig Breen (attualmente 10° nel WRC 2018 con 4 rally disputati su 6 totali) e al norvegese Mads Østberg (12° nel campionato con soli due rally corsi quest’anno) e prossimamente annuncerà il nome dei piloti che correranno le restanti sei gare del Mondiale.
