Dal ciclismo ai rally: lo spagnolo Óscar Freiretre volte campione del mondo – correrà il Rally Catalunya (terzultima tappa del WRC 2o17 in programma dal 6 all’8 ottobre) al volante di una Kia pro_cee’d GT N3.

Non è la prima volta che il ciclista iberico si cimenta con le auto: in carriera Freire ha già disputato infatti cinque rally locali tra il 2016 e il 2017 (sempre con la compatta coreana) ottenendo come miglior risultato un 12° posto nel Rally de Cóbreces. Il Catalunya sarà la sua prima gara valida per il Mondiale.

Óscar Freire – nato a Torrelavega (Spagna) il 15 febbraio 1976 – è (insieme ad Alfredo Binda, a Rik Van Steenbergen e a Eddy Merckx) il ciclista che ha vinto più campionati del mondo (tre). In carriera ha conquistato anche tre Milano-Sanremo, una Gand-Wevelgem, una Parigi-Tours, una Tirreno-Adriatico e quattro tappe al Tour de France.
